So I was finally able to see How to Train Your Dragon. It is a story about a teenage boy named Hiccup. He lives in a Viking village that is constantly attacked by dragons. Hiccup is unfortunately not what one would call “Viking material.” But that all changes on a chance encounter with a dragon. Hiccup comes to the realization that dragons are nothing like what the village believes them to be. Can Hiccup prove to the villagers the truth about dragons before it is too late? Go see it to find out, you won’t be dissapointed.
When How to Train Your Dragon first came out I heard a lot about how the CGI in the movies was comparable to or better than Avatar and I thought “How is that possible?” But after seeing How to Train Your Dragon it is totally true. The CGI of the different dragons are amazing!
I also thought the characters were genius. They seemed to fit together seamlessly, yin and yang. Very well balanced in humor and seriousness.
I really don’t have anything bad to say about the movie.
I want to talk about the characters for a bit now. Have you ever noticed how with most animated films the animators most often “draw” the character so they resemble the actor/actress who gives them a voice? Well I was looking at photos of the actors and their characters side-by-side and the characters do not hold much resemblence to their actor. America Ferrera who is the voice of Astrid, has brown hair while Astrid has blonde. But then again Scandinavians are typically portrayed as blonde haired and blue eyed. I love the picture of Christopher Mintz-Plasse standing by his character, Fishlegs, this really skinny guy making a ‘grrr’ face and flexing his muscles, whil Fishlegs is a quite large boy who looks rather scared.
Overall the movie was wonderful. Great movie for parents and children to enjoy together. Or even a group of college students might enjoy it…we did.
